State assistance

How to ask about child care assistance

Four steps, in Spanish or English. Nobody expects you to work it all out alone.

  • 01

Ask whether it is open this month

State assistance opens and closes through the year, so we cannot promise a place on it. Message us on WhatsApp, call or come by, and we will tell you what we know.

  • 02

    Start your application

You apply to the state, not to us. We can sit with you, in Spanish or English, and fill in the form together.

  • 03

Bring your papers to the first meeting

The list below says what to bring. Bring what you have; we will help you find the rest.

  • 04

    Join the waitlist

If your child's room is full, we put your family on the list and call whoever has waited longest first.

Sitting down together

We sit down together with the list and your questions

At the meeting, Olimpia or Yarely go over what you brought, explain how the center works and answer whatever you want to ask. You can bring a relative or a friend who speaks the language you are most comfortable in.

  • In Spanish or in English

  • Without a rush and without obligation

  • With the figures in writing

Three adults crouch by the cubbies with three children, one holding up a drawing while the others put on their shoes

Your first meeting

What to bring to your first meeting

A short list, so nothing takes you by surprise. Bring what you have; we will help you find the rest.

  • About your child

    • A birth certificate or other proof of age

    • The immunization record from your child's doctor

    • Names and phone numbers of the people who may pick up your child

  • About your family

    • A photo ID

    • Proof of where you live, such as a lease or a bill

    • Your most recent pay stubs or a letter from your employer

  • If you want to ask about assistance

    • Any child care assistance paperwork you have already received

    • A letter or notice from your caseworker, if you have one

    • Your questions, in Spanish or English

Questions about assistance

Will you take my child if I use state assistance?

Ask us whether assistance is open this month. We tell you what we know and go through the steps with you.

Will my child be in a different room?

No. Families who use assistance and families who pay their own way share the same rooms and the same teachers.

What if I do not have all the papers?

Come anyway. Bring what you have and we will help you see what is missing and how to get it.

Will someone speak Spanish with me?

Yes. Olimpia, Yarely and Marcial speak Spanish and English, and this page and the form are in both languages too.
